Google Stitch 2.0 is an AI native UI design tool launched by Google Labs. It was officially released on March 18, 2026. It proposes the concept of "vibe design" - using natural language to describe "atmosphere" and "business goals" instead of traditional wireframe drag and drop, you can generate high-fidelity interface design in seconds. Stitch was formerly known as Galileo AI, which Google acquired in early 2025. After the acquisition, it integrated the Gemini model and relaunched it. Stitch's predecessor, Galileo AI, was an AI design startup founded in 2022. The core functionality of Stitch 2.0 is divided into six dimensions. The first is the AI native infinite canvas. This is the structural core of version 2.0. Static design drafts are always a degraded proxy for real user experience. Stitch allows users to click the "play" button to automatically generate the next logical screen, turning the static design into a clickable prototype at once. This step directly solves the long-standing problem of AI design tools that “can only be viewed but not clicked”. The fourth is smarter design agents. Design Agent 2.0 rebuilds contextual understanding—not just looking at the currently selected frame, but understanding the evolution of the entire project. As of July 2026, Stitch is completely free and requires no credit card. Monthly build quota is 350 in standard mode (Gemini 3.0 Flash) plus 200 in experimental mode (Gemini 3.1 Pro). Standard mode supports Figma export, but experimental mode does not. Figma export is only available for Flash models, and higher-precision Pro models cannot be exported to Figma. The biggest risk is the survival of Google Labs. Google's history of shutting down products is not a good one - Google Reader, Stadia, Inbox by Gmail, etc. have all been axed. Stitch 2.0, even with 724 upvotes, may be demoted or closed at any time if Google's internal priorities change. Teams are advised not to build non-migratory workflows around it. Another technical issue is the reliability and predictability of the output. Not a good fit for: Enterprise-level design teams that require strict branding disciplines, products that require accessibility compliance, and UI work that requires granular pixel-level control. The recommended workflow is: Use Stitch to quickly produce visual drafts in 5-10 directions. After selection, export to Figma for fine adjustments and design system maintenance. The code part is only used as a reference starting point. The production-level code still requires manual review and reconstruction.

Stitch 2.0 is the fastest free UI prototyping tool available. Voice input and DESIGN.md are real innovations. But it's still an early experiment—output quality is spotty, code is rough, accessibility is missing, and there's no long-term commitment. Under the current maturity, the most suitable positioning is "fast inspiration generator" and "Figma's upstream accelerator", rather than "Figma replacement". If Google can continue to invest and solve the problems of precise control and consistency after exiting Labs, Stitch will become a real heavyweight in AI design.
