Motion is an AI-driven productivity "super application" launched by Motion (legal entity Nexusbird, Inc.). Its core capability is to use AI to automatically organize users' calendars, tasks and projects. Starting in 2025, the product will be upgraded from a "smart calendar" to an all-round work platform that integrates AI meeting records, AI documents, AI business intelligence and "AI Employees". It is often called "Motion 2" in its second-generation form. It has raised approximately US$102 million in total and claims to serve more than one million users. It is the most aggressive and controversial product in the current AI automatic scheduling track.
Motion was founded in 2019 by Harry Qi, Omid Rooholfada and Ethan Yu. It is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and was selected for the Y Combinator winter batch in 2020. The three founders all have mathematics and computer backgrounds. Harry Qi and Ethan Yu have worked as quantitative traders on Wall Street, and Omid has worked for Facebook and Optimizely. The team relied on intensive user interviews and product iterations to polish the scheduling algorithm in the early days, and completed a $13 million Series A round in September 2022 (SignalFire led the investment, with angels such as Sam Altman and Michael Seibel also participating). In September 2025, the company announced the completion of a round of financing valued at approximately US$550 million, bringing the total to approximately US$102 million. It also stated that the AI employee function would bring in annual recurring revenue of tens of millions of US dollars within a few months of its launch. In May of the same year, Motion launched an integrated AI agent suite for small and medium-sized enterprises, officially taking "humans and AI employees to share a work management platform" as its new positioning.
The main engine of Motion is AI automatic scheduling. Users only need to enter tasks, set priorities, duration and deadlines, and AI will automatically arrange time blocks on the calendar based on thousands of parameters (deadlines, dependencies, work periods, meeting buffers, etc.), and rearrange them in real time when the schedule changes. It emphasizes that "execution date ≠ deadline" and will warn of risky tasks several days in advance. On top of the schedule, Motion gradually stacks multiple modules. AI project management can generate a complete project including tasks, responsible persons and milestones in seconds based on a text description (officially, the out-of-box accuracy rate exceeds 90%), and supports Gantt charts and Kanban views. The AI calendar assistant merges multiple calendars from Google, Outlook, and iCloud to avoid duplicate bookings. The AI meeting note taker can automatically transcribe the meeting, generate summaries and action items, and return them directly to the task list. Officials say the accuracy rate is about 80%. The AI document assistant turns scattered notes into tasks and projects, and the AI workflow builder turns SOP documents into assignable workflows with one click. The business intelligence module provides team capacity views and project ETA forecasts. The most important expansion in 2025 is "AI employees": pre-set named agents such as Alfred (administrative assistant), Chip (sales), Clide (customer service), Millie (project manager), Suki (marketing), etc., can also be customized according to description; they run above the points limit and handle process-based work such as email drafting, lead follow-up, and work order processing. The desktop experience is complete, while the mobile version is generally evaluated as a "reduced version" with incomplete functions.
Motion does not have a permanent free version, but only provides a 7-day trial that requires a card. The mainstream pricing in 2026 will be two levels: Pro AI is approximately US$19 per seat per month (annual payment, equivalent to approximately US$12.73 per month), and Business AI is approximately US$29 per seat per month (annual payment, equivalent to approximately US$19.43 per month). The monthly payment price is significantly higher (Pro US$29, Business US$49). Advanced AI functions and "AI employees" depend on the points limit (about 7,500 for Pro and about 15,000 per month for Business). The company has repeatedly raised prices, putting pressure on the reputation of old users. Its monetization logic is to use "one platform to replace ten tools" to dilute the total cost, and to use the AI model fee "subscription included" to increase the customer price. The target users extend from individual high-performance individuals to small and medium-sized enterprises that need production capacity management and intelligence.
Positive comments focus on the automatic scheduling itself. A large number of users said that they no longer need to decide "what to do first" in the morning, decision-making fatigue is eliminated, and focus time is actively protected; some ADHD users said it "changed their lives." Team-side cases show that project management efficiency can be improved by about 30%, saving more than ten hours of transactional coordination every week. Some people on Reddit and G2 also recognized its smoothness of multi-calendar merging and real-time rearrangement. Negative feedback was equally concentrated. The first is the price: there is no free file and frequent price increases. Many users think that "paying an exorbitant premium for a to-do list". The second is product direction: after expanding from focusing on scheduling to a "super application", the interface has been criticized as bloated, core UI improvements have been limited within two years, and project management capabilities are still weaker than dedicated tools such as Asana and Monday. The third issue is the mobile terminal and performance. Many users complained about dragging lag after synchronization and the mobile terminal was almost unusable. AI employees have mixed opinions. Some people save several hours of administrative work every week, while others say "it's better to fix the core scheduling first."
In the AI scheduling track, Motion is generally regarded as “the most radical automatic scheduler.” Compared with Reclaim.ai (owned by Dropbox, which retains free files and protects focus time more gently), Sunsama (deliberate anti-automation, guided daily planning), and Akiflow (keyboard-first aggregation planner), the difference of Motion is that it treats tasks and meetings as the same optimization problem and superimposes project management. The industry consensus is: if you have complex tasks and are willing to leave your calendar to an algorithm, Motion is still the first choice; if you want a stable, controllable or low-cost calendar, Reclaim or Sunsama are more suitable. In early 2026, a similar product, Clockwise, was discontinued after being integrated into the Salesforce team, and the market further concentrated on the top. Third-party reviews mostly give Motion’s scheduling capabilities high scores (close to full scores), but the overall score is dragged down by shortcomings in price, mobile terminals, and knowledge management, often around 6/10.
Motion faces several categories of explicit risks. At the product level, "super apps" have brought about bloated functions and unclear positioning. Old users miss the era of focus, while new users are discouraged by complex UIs. At the commercial level, there are no free files and continuous price increases, and discussions about churn and “reclaim” appear frequently in the community. From a technical perspective, the accuracy of AI meeting records is affected by accents and noise, and the points limit for AI employees makes it not "unlimited" for heavy users. At the competitive level, Reclaim, Sunsama, Akiflow, Notion, ClickUp, etc. are all encroaching on its boundaries; if the core scheduling algorithm advantage is overtaken, Motion's high premium will be more difficult to maintain. In addition, as a US SaaS, enterprise customers also need to pay attention to its data compliance and cross-region access.
Motion is suitable for founders, product managers and consultants who have highly uncertain schedules, intensive meetings, and need to shuttle between multiple projects; it is also suitable for high-performance individuals who want a "digital chief of staff" experience and whose hourly wages are much higher than the subscription cost. It's not suitable for budget-conscious people, people who just want to plan their days in peace, or larger enterprises that need sophisticated reporting and advanced access - the latter should look to Asana, Monday, or a dedicated PM tool. If your main pain point is "information overload, scattered notes" rather than "when to do it", Motion can't help much, so you can give priority to knowledge management tools. New users are recommended to complete the 7-day trial first, honestly estimate the task duration, set work periods and personal boundaries, and then decide whether to pay; those who rely heavily on mobile terminals need to be cautious.
Motion has made "letting AI take over the day" the strongest in the field and is an efficient tool for heavy-duty users. However, its high premium, mobile shortcomings and bloated "super applications" have also made it the most controversial one. In the 2026 AI work platform competition, it is betting on the organizational form of "people + AI employees". Success or failure depends on whether the new modules outside the core schedule can truly mature.
